Very simply put, we are a Bible believing, Christian fellowship. Our church is conservative and fervent in its worship. Emphasis is placed on God’s Word as the sole authority for what a person believes and does. We are also confessional, which means we subscribe to the Westminster Confession of Faith. Evangelism is very important to us and for this reason, weather permitting, you will find us in Conway square each Thursday preaching the Gospel. Gospel Missions, Bible Conferences and other events take place throughout the year and these provide opportunities for prayer and active involvement in the work of the church in our community.
Our Sunday services follow a straightforward format. Our Pastor will lead the services, during which there is reverent and earnest congregational singing of both Psalms and hymns. A hymnal will be given to you at the door. In addition, there is also a systematic reading of the Bible each Sunday morning. The preaching of God’s Word is the focal point of our services. There is usually a series which our minister will be preaching through. To find out what is currently being preached visit here. Each service lasts for approximately 60-80 minutes.
Yes, our Bible study and prayer meeting is combined and is each Wednesday at 8pm. Throughout the year we also have visits from various Missionaries and Christian workers who we seek to support prayerfully and financially.
The worship of God is the Christian’s highest honour and it is only reasonable that those who profess His name come before Him in a respectable way. With that in mind you will discover that the majority who attend our meetings will present themselves as decently and formally as they can. You will discover that most of the women in the church will be wearing a hat of some kind – a head covering. The Free Presbyterian Church believe that 1 Corinthians 11 is clear on this issue.
While families and individuals tend to sit in their usual places, there are no fixed position – so do not worry about this. If you need to sit at the back or nearer to the exit this can be accommodated. We also have a balcony which offers more space as fewer people sit up there. Either way, those greeting you at the door will be happy to help you.
Our hymn book is filled with traditional Christian hymns. The organ and sometimes piano forms the musical accompaniment. On certain occasions, such as Harvest Thanksgiving, Easter and times of Gospel mission, singers from other congregations will join with us and provide some items in praise. Before the Sunday evening service there is a short time of community singing led by one of our elders. If you don’t know any of the hymns then do not be concerned; the congregation sing well and you will soon learn these much loved hymns.
We encourage you to bring a Bible along with you. You will discover that all Bible reading and preaching is from the Authorised (King James) version of the Bible. Our Pastor, during his sermons, will explain some of the harder to understand words and phrases. If you do not have a Bible we will happily supply one for you and if you wish to request a Bible to keep feel free to contact us
Yes! We would love to see you along and if you can come with a friend or family member – even better!
Yes, you will find that our services are live-streamed on various platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and SermonAudio. This benefits those who are too unwell to attend in person, housebound or for some other legitimate reason. However, the Bible clearly teaches that the Church should worship and fellowship in person. Nothing can replace the presence of God in the House of God.
No one is forced to give money. There are baskets in our foyer and most in the church will tithe and give in order to support the work of God. The taking up of offerings each Lord’s Day is spoken of in the Bible. Many are choosing to give through online banking – you can find out more here.
‘O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness’
